Academic

Math Tutoring

Using the IXL Learning platform (used by Pelham school system), we will keep students engaged in Math 4 weeks for 2 days per week and 1 hour per day. We will use a Real-time Diagnostic to determine their current level of math. To solidify their understanding of key concepts a Skill Plan will be created and they will have the assistance and support of a teacher or college level trained tutor in every session. The main objective is to build skills and confidence in math.

Reading & Writing Tutoring

Using the IXL Learning platform (used by Pelham school system), we will keep students engaged in ELA 4 weeks for 2 days per week and 1 hour per day. We will use a Real-time Diagnostic to determine their current level and identify learning gaps. A personalized action plan will be created to solidify their grade-level proficiency and they will have the assistance and support of a teacher or college level trained tutor in every session. The main objective is to close learning gaps and facilitate meaningful progress in ELA.

Math

Using IXL Learning platform (used by Pelham school system), we will keep students engaged in Math over 4 summer weeks for 3 days per week and 2 hours per day. We will use a Real-time Diagnostic to determine their current level of math. To solidify their understanding of key concepts a Skill Plan will be created and they will have the assistance and support of a teacher or college level trained tutor in every session. The main objective is to prevent the brain drain that summer usually brings and build skills and confidence in math.

We will use a Real-time Diagnostic to determine their current level and identify learning gaps. A personalized action plan will be created to solidify their grade-level proficiency and they will have the assistance and support of a teacher or college level trained tutor in every session. The main objective is to close learning gaps and facilitate meaningful progress in ELA.

Workshops

Empowerment through Interactive Workshops

Youth Leadership

Will provide an opportunity to teach, inspire, and motivate future community leaders. This workshop offers participating youth an opportunity to improve communication skills, set goals and execute them, collaborate with others, impart negotiation skills, develop decision-making skills, get organized, and encourage them to try new things. Encouraging young people to make a difference improves our community and builds self-esteem.

Youth Coping Strategies

Will explain what coping skills are and why they are important. Will review the main strategies and practice using these skills and begin developing a plan for utilizing the skills learned.

Financial Wellness

For High School Students the workshop will provide guidance on how to financially and emotionally prepare for college by managing costs. Will focus on financial aid forms, payment plans and scholarships. Join us for an engaging workshop to overcome financial challenges on your way to success.

For Middle School Students the workshop will be all about CASH, showing you how to manage money – your allowance or payment for jobs around the house. It will also introduce you to savings (savings accounts) and financial resources in the community.

Mental Health of Athletes

Each workshop is designed to give each individual the ability to understand, use and manage their emotions, leaving each athlete with coping skills to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others and overcome conflict.

Basketball Training

Basketball skills and drills taught by NCAA college level players. Sessions 3 days per week for 1-1.5 hours per day. Each program runs for approximately 4 weeks.

Fitness Power. Train, Strengthen, Energize.

Fitness Class

Fitness Power. Train, Strengthen, Energize. Conducted in the fitness room or gym, offered twice per week. Strength training, weight and resistance training, cardio exercises.

Flavorful Creations Await

Culinary Arts

Cooking classes offered once per week throughout the summer. Free for members and covered by entrance fee for others. Introduction to cooking techniques and concepts, conducted in a kitchen environment. Nutrition, menu planning, plate presentation and garnishing techniques.

Let's Dance

Come and experience the art of moving one’s entire body rhythmically to music to express an idea, emotion or story. Each workshop will focus on a specific style of dance while empowering you to identify your dance goals, your passion and your next steps in your dancing journey.  

Theo Martinez is a Dancer, Choreographer, and Instructor.  His love and passion for dance which originally started with Hip Hop, have grown to other styles such as Contemporary, Modern, and Ballroom Dance.  He has choreographed and performed with Boston-based dance companies (Urbanity, Tribe/B-Side/TriiipleThreat Entertainment, and several others).

The summer hours for the center will be 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM (On occasion scheduled activities will run to 9:00 PM).

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY

IN CONSIDERATION OF the risk of injury that exists while participating inRECREATIONAL ACTIVITY (hereinafter the “Activity”); and IN CONSIDERATION OF my desire to participate in said Activity and being given the right to participate in same; 

I HEREBY, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, or personal representatives (hereinafter collectively, “Releasor,” “I” or “me”, which terms shall also include Releasor’s parents or guardian if Releasor is under 18 years of age), knowingly and voluntarily enter into this WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY and hereby waive any and all rights, claims or causes of action of any kind arising out of my participation in the Activity; and 

I HEREBY release and forever discharge BISHOPS STANLEY & RUTH CHOATE WELLNESS & RECREATION CENTER, located at 955 Bridge St, Pelham, New Hampshire 03076, their affiliates, managers, members, agents, attorneys, staff, volunteers, heirs, representatives, predecessors, successors and assigns (collectively “Releasees”), from any physical or psychological injury that I may suffer as a direct result of my participation in the aforementioned Activity. 

I AM VOLUNTARILY PARTICIPATING IN THE AFOREMENTIONED ACTIVITY AND I AM PARTICIPATING IN THE ACTIVITY ENTIRELY AT MY OWN RISK. I AM AWARE OF THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATING IN THIS ACTIVITY, WHICH MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: PHYSICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURY, PAIN, SUFFERING, ILLNESS, DISFIGUREMENT, TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT DISABILITY (INCLUDING PARALYSIS), ECONOMIC OR EMOTIONAL LOSS, AND DEATH. I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE INJURIES OR OUTCOMES MAY ARISE FROM MY OWN OR OTHERS’ NEGLIGENCE, CONDITIONS RELATED TO TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE ACTIVITY, OR FROM CONDITIONS AT THE ACTIVITY LOCATION(S). NONETHELESS, I ASSUME ALL RELATED RISKS, BOTH KNOWN AND UNKNOWN TO ME, OF MY PARTICIPATION IN THIS ACTIVITY. 

I FURTHER AGREE to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Releasees against any and all claims, suits or actions of any kind whatsoever for liability, damages, compensation or otherwise brought by me or anyone on my behalf, including attorney’s fees and any related costs. 

I FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE that “Releasees” are not responsible for errors, omissions, acts or failures to act of any party or entity conducting a specific event or activity on behalf of “Releasees”. In the event that I should require medical care or treatment, I authorize BISHOPS STANLEY & RUTH CHOATE WELLNESS & RECREATION CENTER to provide all emergency medical care deemed necessary, including but not limited to, first aid, CPR, the use of AEDs, emergency medical transport, and sharing of medical information with medical personnel. I further agree to assume all costs involved and agree to be financially responsible for any costs incurred as a result of such treatment. I am aware and understand that I should carry my own health insurance. 

I FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGE that this Activity may involve a test of a person’s physical and mental limits and may carry with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss. I agree not to participate in the Activity unless I am medically able and properly trained. 

I HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS “WAIVER AND RELEASE” AND FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY. I EXPRESSLY AGREE TO RELEASE AND DISCHARGE BISHOPS STANLEY & RUTH CHOATE WELLNESS & RECREATION CENTER AND ALL OF ITS AFFILIATES, MANAGERS, MEMBERS, AGENTS, ATTORNEYS, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, HEIRS, REPRESENTATIVES, PREDECESSORS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS OR CAUSES OF ACTION AND I AGREE TO VOLUNTARILY GIVE UP OR WAIVE ANY RIGHT THAT I OTHERWISE HAVE TO BRING A LEGAL ACTION AGAINST BISHOPS STANLEY & RUTH CHOATE WELLNESS & RECREATION CENTER FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. 

To the extent that statute or case law does not prohibit releases for ordinary negligence, this release is also for such negligence on the part of BISHOPS STANLEY & RUTH CHOATE WELLNESS & RECREATION CENTER , its agents, and employees. 

THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY SHALL REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE DURATION OF MY PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITY, DURING THIS INITIAL AND ALL SUBSEQUENT EVENTS OF PARTICIPATION. 

In the event that any provision contained within this Release of Liability shall be deemed to be severable or invalid, or if any term, condition, phrase or portion of this agreement shall be determined to be unlawful or otherwise unenforceable, the remainder of this agreement shall remain in full force and effect. If a court should find that any provision of this agreement to be invalid or unenforceable, but that by limiting said provision it would become valid and enforceable, then said provision shall be deemed to be written, construed and enforced as so limited.
